Preamp
JFET take on Ampeg amp grit, with Deaf and Dead modes each with their own bass and gain.
Drive for the Dead is a JFET emulation of the Ampeg amplifier preamp, aiming at the loose, saggy grind those amps are known for rather than a tight modern drive. A two-mode switch selects Deaf and Dead voicings, each with its own gain range, and a bass control tames or fattens the low end to suit guitar or bass. It runs on 9 to 18 volts, with the higher rail adding headroom and firmness. It works as a standalone preamp for a clean amp or as a character drive stacked in front of other dirt, leaning toward vintage-flavored breakup rather than high gain.
