Phenom Distortion
5150-voiced distortion using JFET clipping instead of op-amps or diodes. Bright/Classic voicing, 3-band EQ.
The Phenom is a dynamic distortion pedal loosely voiced after 5150-style amp tones, but with an unusual clipping topology — JFETs are driven in a way that mimics how vacuum tubes behave when cranked into overdrive, rather than the op-amp-and-diode clipping most distortions rely on. Brian Wampler's own circuit design, not a clone. A two-position voicing switch selects between Classic (smooth and tight, with punchy low-end) and Bright (glassier harmonic overtones that help solos cut through a mix). Independent Gain and Volume knobs plus a flexible 3-band EQ cover everything from punchy rhythm tones to responsive lead voices. 3PDT true bypass. 9V–18V DC, just 5mA of current draw. Compact Collective Series enclosure with top-mounted jacks.
