The Tube Pilot Overdrive delivers warm, touch-sensitive breakup with a real 12AX7 tube inside — the same preamp valve used in vintage and iconic guitar amps. Part of TC Electronic's Smorgasbord of Tones series, which offered genuine amp-style circuits at entry-level prices. Three controls: Drive, Tone, and Level. The circuit responds dynamically to pick attack, cleaning up when you play softly and pushing harder when you dig in — the tube saturation is audibly different from diode-clipping OD. True bypass. The catch: a 12AX7 heater alone draws 300mA, so the pedal needs a serious power supply (not a daisy chain). 9V DC, 300mA. Compact pedalboard-friendly enclosure, top-mounted I/O.
