Pop Top Boost
Console-grade discrete op-amp boost on the 2520 preamp footprint. 9V converts to 36V internally for massive headroom.
The Pop Top Boost borrows from the world of 1970s recording studios, where discrete op-amp preamps defined the sound of an era. The core circuit uses a discrete op-amp built to the standard 2520 footprint — the same topology found in vintage Neve and API console modules — translated into a guitar pedal.
A single knob controls gain from unity to 30dB of clean boost. At zero, the op-amp's inherent coloration still sweetens the signal with subtle midrange focus, making it useful as an always-on buffer or tone enhancer. Crank it for a powerful line driver that can push a tube amp into breakup. Internally, the circuit converts 9V input to 36V of headroom — more voltage than most tube circuits run on — keeping the signal pristine at any gain setting.
Runs on 9V DC center-negative at 110mA. 4.75" x 2.5" x 1.5", weighing 0.75 lbs. Handmade in San Francisco.
