Surveyor
Ampeg IVP bass preamp in a pedal. Crushing tight low end without the 85-lb rack head.
Electronic Audio Experiments designed the Surveyor to capture the Ampeg IVP preamp section. The IVP was a rack preamp that became a secret weapon for heavy bands needing crushing bass tones — it grew into a cult favorite on stages and records where players needed the Ampeg bass voice without lugging an SVT head. The circuit emphasizes the IVP's characteristically aggressive midrange and tight low end. A three-band EQ matches the original's voicing. The Gain control sweeps from warm and full to grinding distortion while keeping the bottom end focused — a key trait of the original IVP. Works equally well for bass or guitar: bass players get the IVP sound without hunting down vintage rack gear, guitarists get a thick, bass-forward preamp that sits differently in a mix than typical guitar-voiced pedals. Hand-built in Philadelphia. 9V DC, 50mA.
