The R-409 Tremolo is an all-analog, vactrol-based optical tremolo from Big Joe's Rocket series, modulating volume from roughly 1Hz to 10Hz with a smooth, organic feel.

Five controls give unusually deep control for a tremolo: Speed, Depth, Shape, Tone and Output, with Shape morphing the waveform from gentle sine-like throb to hard, choppy square-wave stutter and Tone adjusting brightness. Runs on 9V DC center-negative and accepts 12V or 18V for extra headroom. True bypass.
